Reading Murals

As part of my programme for Book Week Scotland 2013, I ran a project to inspire the nation with reading, once again, this time with the exterior of 5 of Scotland's libraries, working with interdisciplinary design studio Pidgin Perfect, 5 leading Scottish writers (Angus Peter Campbell, Liz Lochhead, Viv French, James Robertson and Alan Bissett) and 4 talented artists (Gabriella Marcella DiTano, Eleanor Stewart, Rogue One and David Galletly) to create 5 distinctive and amazing murals to inspire people to visit their local libraries.

The murals were created quite literally during one very busy week (!) and unveiled one per day across Book Week Scotland 2013, with a series of community events that brought music, creativity and communities into the libraries.

You can read more about the murals, the writers, the artists, the projects and watch a short film about the project by the talented Niall Webster here.

The project was a great success, very popular with the libraries and their patrons, and the project was subsequently repeated the following year for Book Week Scotland 2014.
